After getting in the mood for Christmas with fingerprint Christmas trees earlier this month, I enlisted my toddler for today's kid-made reindeer Christmas card featuring a cute printable poem. He did great with the handprint, even though only four fingers actually made it on the paper 😉 Then again, those cute chubby hands could make up for anything 🙂
This craft is kind of a cross between our wildly popular handprint snowmen Christmas ornaments and our handprint reindeer ornament, except this time, I turned it into a Christmas card.

Supplies Used:
- Brown paint (we still don't have brown tempera, so I used liquid watercolors again; any washable paint you have on hand will work)
- Cardstock, heavyweight construction paper or other heavy paper. (we used watercolor paper this time)
- Small bowl for the paint.
- Paintbrush
- Colorful markers. I have Staedtler Triplus Fineliner Pens that I originally bought for journaling, and I love them!
- Red glitter glue for the noses (optional but fun; other options include a red marker or a small circle cut from red paper, foam or felt).
Instructions:
I painted N's hand, and he did great putting his hand on the paper and leaving it there for a few seconds without wiggling around. I purposely helped him leave most of his palm off the paper.
We ended up with a great print, even though it only included four fingers 😉
The color was a little wonky while it was still wet, but it dried to a nice shade of brown.
Once it was completely dry, I used colorful markers to draw antlers, arms, eyes, a scarf, a necklace, a wrapped gift, and a beanie. I wish I'd thought of hats before drawing the antlers and given one of them a Santa hat that the antlers poke through. Next time for sure!{E, my 6-year-old, has already asked twice if she can make handprint reindeer, too 😉 }
I added red glitter glue noses as a last step.
For the inside of the handprint reindeer Christmas card, I tweaked a popular poem. You can download the file here if you want to use it, too.
Due to the four fingers/five fingers issue, I made four different versions, referencing "four reindeer", "five reindeer", "some reindeer", and "cute reindeer" respectively, so however this craft turns out for you, I've got you covered 😉
These kid-made reindeer Christmas cards would be great to give with a kid-made ornament! Some ideas are these color-your-own Christmas ornament printables and these salt dough candy cane ornaments.
