Peek-A-Boo Handprint Groundhog

This adorable Peek-A-Boo Handprint Groundhog Craft was a big hit with my little guy! I traced my son's hand onto brown colored paper- he got to pick which hand! I placed his index, middle, and ring finger in a closed position and left the thumb and pinkie separate (these are the arms). I cut the hand out and painted on details. The index and ring fingers are suppose to be ears and the middle finger is supposed to be hair. I also made the groundhog's nose using my son's thumb painted in black. To make it into a little puppet, I glued it to a Popsicle stick.
He kind of looks like a handprint beaver!!!
Next, take 2 strips of paper (I used black) that is big enough to cover your groundhog & about 3 times the width of him. Place one on top of the other and glue just the ends together. Add grass over the top of it making sure to leave enough space in the center for the groundhog to fit in. Now all that's left is to push your Groundhog Puppet in between the space......

Peek-A-Boo!
This craft goes perfect with this song I saw on the Idea Box Website:
I'm a Little Groundhog
(tune: I'm a little teapot)
I'm a little groundhog furry and brown,
popping up my head and looking around.
If I see my shadow then down I go,
six more weeks of winter - OH NO!!!

That turned out very cute! I am glad that Diego was able to help. 🙂 Since I am not sure what a ground hog actually looks like, I'll buy it. 🙂 We kinda skipped Ground Hog's Day since I wasn't feeling good but I think will try this one today.
