Stamped Onion Snails and Wall Art

Yay! It's time for another crafty challenge with our blogging buddies! This month's theme is fruit and veggie stamping. We decided to make prints with onions and turn it into unique wall art to hang in the home. While making the prints, I thought the circles were perfect to make stamped onion snails. They turned out cute!

We have another onion that we cut open today that we will be making more prints with since I might have went ahead and made them into snails while the kids were sleeping. Will update with the kids creations in a few weeks. I'm pretty sure Little Sister is also making ladybugs from them. I'm excited to see how they turn out!

Veggie Stamping: Onion Prints

Don't forget to see what the other crafty girls came up with for this challenge! They are all listed at the end of the post and include apples, celery, okra, and more.

How to make the Stamped Onion Snails

For this craft we used the part of the onion that usually gets cut off. Paint the onion with a solid color and stamp it on a sheet of construction paper. It also looks neat if multiple colors are used on the onion.

Onion Stamping Craft

Make a  fingerprint on one side of the stamped onion where you would like the head to be. Set aside to dry.

Use markers in the same color as the fingerprints you made and draw on the rest of the snails body and tail. Draw 2 lines coming off the top of the head with an eye on top of each.

We also made baby snails with fingerprints as the shell. Use a marker to draw a curly-cue inside the shell.

Optional: Write 'Snails' in a curly writing style.

How to make the Wall Art Onion Prints

Choose a few different colors to use that look good together. Keep in mind that some colors turn a yucky brown when mixed. Paint the onion with the colors by dabbing small amounts of different colors on a sheet of card stock or similar. We used 2 different shades of blue, yellow, and orange for our prints.

Stamping with Onions - Kids Art

To change it up a bit, wash the paint off the onion. Make cuts with a knife in a pattern or however you'd like. Add paint to the onion again and make more prints.

Once dry, glue it to a colored sheet of cardstock or scrapbook paper. Now you have beautiful, kid-made artwork to hang on the wall!
