Here’s an adorable keepsake for kids to make with their dads for Father’s Day. Make a handprint with both the child and their father and then add a printable I Love You Dad poem to give as a sweet card. *This post was originally published 6/8/2012 an updated 5/17/20.
Since my son made a Dad and Me footprint craft for Father’s Day, I made a handprint one with his little sister. I just adore all the daddy and me handprint crafts! I adapted ours to suit us by changing the poem wording to papa.

Handprint Father’s Day Poem and Craft
All you need to make this cute Father’s Day craft is the following items:
- kids paint
- paintbrush
- construction paper
- dad poem printable → Click Here
- scissors
- glue
I painted my husband’s hand blue and had him make a handprint. Of course it would have been fun for her to paint his hand too, but between his work schedule and her napping there wasn’t a good time to do so. It’s still a precious keepsake nonetheless!
The following day, I painted Baby Sister’s hand pink and made a handprint on top of his…. so cute!
Next, cut out the poem and Father’s Day saying. Glue the cute piece to a different color of construction paper and cut out this so it makes a framed border. Glue these to your handprint project.
There are different versions of the poem including Daddy, Papa, Grandpa, and a fill-in-the-blank. Choose the one best suits your needs.
The handprint poem for Dad reads:
Papa, I love you
for all that you do.I’ll kiss you and hug you
’cause you love me too.You feed me and need me
to teach you to play.So smile ’cause I love you
on this Father’s Day!
