Halloween is such a fun holiday, isn't it? Spooky scares, terrifying treats and frightening friends. It's fun to dress up, bake and make crafty Halloween decorations. If you are looking for something fun that can be played with, give these spooky footprint Halloween stick puppets a try!
DIY Spooky Footprint Halloween Stick Puppets
Creating crafts with hands and feet is always sentimental to me. It seems like not even days later my daughter's hands and feet have grown bigger than our crafts show. Everytime I pull out one of our past hand or footprint crafts, I get mushy feelings of how fast she is growing up and how much I love being her mama. Did you know hand and footprint crafts could do that? They do!
Supplies:
Paint (Green, Orange and Cream)
White Cardstock
Scissors
Glue
Construction Paper
Paper Straws
Instructions:
We started off with a few different colors of paint to start the bodies of the frightening friends: 2 green, for the witch and Frankenstein, orange for the pumpkin, and a cream white for the ghost.
Then, we printed the footprints onto cardstock and let them dry. Once dry, it was time to create the Halloween character puppets.
Footprint Jack-o-lantern Puppet Craft
For the pumpkin, we used black construction paper to cut the pieces of the face out. The stem was made from green construction paper. Just glue all the pieces in place and tape a decorative straw to the back.
DIY Footprint Witch Stick Puppet
For this classic Halloween character, we used black, orange and yellow construction paper. Witches hats are quintessential, as is the broom. We used both with our witch. Cut a triangle and thin rectangle shape from black paper to create the witch's hat. Use yellow to create the broom with a skinny black strip.
We chose to use orange to create the hair with a bunch of little slits cut into the ends like fringe. Finish by gluing all the pieces in place and adding the straw to the backside.
Not Scary Ghost Puppet Craft
The footprint ghost was pretty simple to make. All you have to do is cut three ovals from black construction paper, one larger than the other two. Glue them on as the eyes and mouth. All that's left is taping a straw to the back of the ghost.
Footprint Frankenstein Puppet Craft
Frankenstein was super simple to create as well. Use black construction paper for the eyes and for the screws on each side of the neck. Are they screws? I can't remember exactly. I drew on a smirky smile. Tape a straw to the back to create the finished puppet.
We used paper straws on the back for the stick part of the puppet. I placed one long side and then two pieces side to side. Simple as that.
It was fun to play with these, they would be great to connect with a Halloween themed children's book. Instead of just playing around and putting on puppet shows, it becomes a hands-on storytelling activity - Although 'just playing around' is rarely a bad thing!
