Simple Happy 4th of July Paper Craft with Template

Here's an easy red, white, and blue paper craft that's perfect for preschoolers and kindergartners to make for the Fourth of July.  This patriotic craft idea has a flag inspired template you can print at home or use in a classroom. It says "Happy 4th of July!" with the paper hand holding up for fingers instead of the number 4 making it a cute kid-made decoration!

Creative American Flag Inspired Paper Craft

This craft is great for kids who are learn to cut in straight lines!

Red, White, and Blue Craft Supplies

  • printed flag template
  • white cardstock
  • construction paper: red and blue
  • scissors
  • gluestick
  • black marker

Happy 4th of July Craft Template

Creative American Flag Inspired Paper Craft Instructions

To start the Happy 4th of July paper craft, print the flag background template on white cardstock.

Then take a sheet of red construction paper and cut out 3 strips to 1”x7.5”. These will make the background stripes.

Now glue these strips onto the template, creating a white and red striped pattern.

Trace Hand on Blue Paper Glue thumb so fingers make number 4
Next, have the child trace around their hand onto the blue construction paper and then cut it out.

Once cut, take the thumb and glue it to the palm of the hand, creating a “number four” from the fingers.

Glue Blue Hand to Template

Now, glue the hand holding up “four” to the middle of the striped background.

To finish it off, write “th” in the upper right of the blue hand with a black marker.

The patriotic red, white, and blue paper craft is complete and ready to be displayed as a fun Fourth of July decoration!
