Cute Halloween Sign Craft For Kids: 'Scaredy Cats Welcome'

I love the handprint black cat crafts my son and his friends made last year and wanted to make one with my daughter this Halloween. To change it up a bit, we made a 'Scaredy Cats Welcome' Halloween sign craft. It's easy to make and can be adapted to feature other Halloween symbols instead of the black cat.

Handprint Halloween Sign Craft For Kids: 'Scaredy Cats Welcome' featuring a black cat handprint on a foam pumpkin.

How to make the 'Scaredy Cats Welcome' Halloween Sign Craft

Supplies Needed:

  • Foam Craft Pumpkins (Dollar Tree, Walmart, and Craft Stores usually carry them)
  • Black and White Paint; optional - pink paint
  • Paintbrushes including one with a fine tip
  • Letter Stamps and Ink or Alphabet Stickers
  • Marker or Pen

Instructions:

We painted my daughter's hand with black paint, then placed it on the pre-cut pumpkin shape to make the handprint. Alternatively, you could draw the outline of a pumpkin on either craft foam or construction paper and then cut it out.

Paint on the ears and tail, then set it aside to dry. Instead of using all white for the details, this year I used pink for the nose and ears. The eyes, whiskers, and claws.

Because I wanted this to be a keepsake for my 1 year old, I wrote her name, age, and the year across the bottom.

This ended up being a great way to get her more familiar with recognizing how cats look {she's doggie-obsessed!} Now she says cat and gato every time she sees one, but kitty doesn't seem to interest her at all. She loves to match things or crafts we have made, so if we are at home and she sees a cat in a book {TV, etc.} she excitedly runs up to her craft and tells me to "Look, cat!" So cute.
